Ryobi 130429001 18-Volt 2.4-AMP Hour Li-Ion Battery June 14, 2010 J. Sayson (Vancouver, BC CANADA) Excellent battery as a replacement for the +ONE Ryobi system. Had the NiMh batteries that lasted three years, cycling them regularly. The original batteries no longer hold a charge (for more than 2 minutes), so decided on the Li-Ion version which is rated to work with the original charger. May spring for the Li-Ion charger instead, as this battery does not quite fit properly into the original NiMh charger ~ you have to push it in fairly hard - it clicks in and starts to charge - then to remove it, you really have to give a good hard tug, as it often seems jammed in. Also, it takes about 3 times longer to achieve a full charge. But when fully charged ~ the battery lasts a really long time. There is also a charge indicator light on the battery that tells you how much charge is left.
All in all, very happy with this item.
...Say I'm Unreliable Too... June 3, 2010 Raymond J. Sephens (Shavertown, PA) 1 out of 2 found this review helpful
I bought a combo pack that included a Ryobi drill and two Lithium-Ion batteries: one full size (P113) and one compact (P103). The $89 P113 failed after the first use. The salesman at Home Depot said he thought they had an extra one in the back. It came opened with no packaging or literature but it worked. He exchanged it for the defective one and noted that a lot of these batteries were failing. The smaller P103 performs as expected for now, but I have no confidence in either especially after reading these reviews. I purchased two Ryobi "One+" NiCad battery packs for backup.
Poor battery life May 13, 2010 Goober 4 out of 5 found this review helpful
I have used this battery for a total of maybe 1 hour, and already the charger is saying it is defective! Worst $100 I have ever spent.
Lithium is not for everyone April 20, 2010 LM1000 (upstate NY) 10 out of 11 found this review helpful
I have used Ryobi tools with this battery, but my review is about this battery and other manufacturers lithium. Lithium batteries are good for some people, but depending on how you use your tools, you may WANT nicad, that is the case with me and why I have a problem with this battery.
-Despite the advertising at the stores that says it provides more power. It doesn't. 18volts is 18 volts. The tools do NOT run better with this battery. We took a 1" spade bit and drilled it through a 2x4 with a drill with this batter and then with the 'old nicad', and it took the same ammout of time. So the advertising is wrong. no extra power.
-However, the bigger issue is if you use your tools alot or push them hard. Put a lot of drain on the battery (heavy use with little rest), and this battery seems to die very quickly (much more quickly than even the nicad). What I found out is it isn't dying, but when you drain the battery quickly, it can heat up, and most (if not all) lithium batteries shut down when they get too hot to prevent damage to them. Nicads do not do that. The nicad will heat up, but it will keep running when you push your tools hard.
So Yes, the Lithium battery is good for some, but when we used this battery under heavy use, our old nicads actually worked BETTER for us than the more expensive lithium.
Also, of the 2 batteries that came with the first tool we purchased, one of them didn't work right out of the box. We had to have that one replaced at the store (and consequently purchased an additional one to be on the safe side with batteries.)
OK, but don't expect more than warranty life April 10, 2010 C. Eades (San Jose) 3 out of 3 found this review helpful
I am a Ryobi fan. I have lots of their gear. The Li-Ion batter is (performance wise) a large step up from their previous 1+ battery. However, both of my batteries died two weeks after warranty expiration. Replacing the two batteries is very near the cost of another kit. (Which is how the sales guy sold me on the kit). Maybe it's like razor blades.
