POOR August 9, 2010 BULL DOZIER DOS' NOT HAVE GROVE/SLOT CUTT OUT TO WRAP AROUND STAPLE .IT NO MORE THENE A FANCY POUNCH.THINK ABOUT IT HOW IS IT GOING TO HOLD ITSELF ON THE STAPLE?MAY BE SOME ONE PACKED THE WROUNG ONES IN PACGEAGE? T/U WESTLEY DOZIER.
Works as Advertised August 5, 2010 Dante Opliades (Louisville, KY) This is very hard. The important thing about that is that even if you mis-hit the nail, this will not mar or change its tip shape. I used it extensively while putting down about 400 sq ft of floor and it worked flawlessly, better than a regular round awl.
I would recommend for L-shaped flooring nails.
expensive June 6, 2010 C. Ho (CA) This was designed to fit the nail head but often slips and damages the floor. I ended up using my finishing nail setting tool instead and surprisingly that worked better. The finishing nail setting tool has tiny round tip with groove instead of this flat screw driver looking tip. That groove helped to prevent slipping when I apply with a hammer. I initially thought the round tip could ruin the nail head or puncture or leave round impression on the hardwood material but this wasn't the case. I paid three dollars for the set of finishing nail setting tools (3 total in different size) at local store.
Not quite a "must have" for flooring installation June 3, 2010 J. Miesle (Indiana, USA) I purchased this after having little success with other types of punches to set the occasional nail that wouldn't go all the way in (mostly due to operator error). Overall, it was very helpful for nails that only needed to be set 1/4" or less. I guess a regular screwdriver would do the trick as well, and for a lot cheaper. I would say if you are installing a lot of flooring, get one. For the weekend warrior only doing a room or so, use something you already have. The price just doesn't warrant buying it for small jobs.
For nails that are only partially in the flooring, I would recommend pulling/breaking off with pliers and setting the remainder, followed by driving another nail next to the first.
great nail setting tool May 12, 2010 K. Lake (Colville WA) This tool is great, and indispensable for flooring I am using the Bostitch manual nailer MFN200 with Bostitch nails and I may be an amateur or not hitting it hard enough all the time, but this little setting tool cleans up my nailing perfectly. I would not try to do the job without it.
