| Customer Reviews: Broken June 11, 2010 Consumer 1011100100 (MD) I didn't buy this factory reconditioned one, but I bought the exact sander brand new. As another reviewer stated the weak link is the pieces of metal that hold the sandpaper on. The vibration causes the little yellow finger tabs to smack against the tool 60 times a second. Its very loud and annoying. More importantly it causes the metal to get really hot thus weakening it. After a while the metal bar breaks. On sanding my 15th 2"x2"x8' it started smacking then on the 16th it broke. Up until that point it worked marvelously.
Not as advertised May 24, 2010 jmj4000 This sander came to me used, but NOT refurbished. It came with one piece of sandpaper NOT three as the description said. It was filthy and the carrying bag was full of sawdust. The case had masking tape with numbers and writing on it designating it as a rental tool.
This thing was never even touched by Ryobi. It was just thrown in a box and shipped to me.
It does work and I only payed $25 for it. I cleaned it up an I am using it.
Beware, they are sending out used products and NOT refurbished products.
Don't Buy This! May 17, 2010 Putney Mountain (CO USA) The metal pieces that hold the paper broke spontaneously during the first use! I wasn't even pushing on them - the vibration broke them!
Reconditioned Ryobi Sander 1,000 foot test drive. May 12, 2010 P. M. Byrne (Elverta, CA) 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
The sander itself is a steal at the price. It looks and works like new, but it doesn't cost like it.
It takes a quarter of a standard sheet of open-grit sandpaper, so you don't have to buy specially cut paper that only fits one kind of sander (and is often difficult to find).
There is an easy to read direction booklet with it, as well as a collection bag for the dust, and even a plastic device that punches holes in your sandpaper to match the holes in the sole plate which allow the dust to be contained in the attached bag.
All of this is packaged in a sturdy, lightweight cloth bag which has no sharp corners or edges, and won't break like the plastic cases for most sanders.
I really like it!
Works like a champ; dust bag really works too. January 28, 2009 M. Stewart (Texas, USA) 9 out of 9 found this review helpful
This 1/4 sheet sander has a lot of nice little touches that make it a joy to use. The levers for holding down the sandpaper are easy to use; no need to fiddle with them.
The dust bag works better than I expected. The base of the sander has 6 holes in it; the kit comes with a template to punch holes in the sandpaper after loading the sandpaper. When I went to empty the dust bag, there was a lot more sawdust in there than I anticipated. I did notice there wasn't much residue when sanding, but I still wouldn't sand anything in the formal dining room.
There is a pilot light built into the handle so you can tell at a glance whether it is plugged in. The on/off switch is very easy to operate, and very rugged. The grip is easy on the hand.
