4 out of 5 stars This is fun!   June 29, 2010
A Johnson (Snohomish, WA USA)
My factory reconditioned Karcher K3.68m was ordered from Amazon and shipped free from CPO Karcher. It was received promptly and was well-packaged.

ASSEMBLY:

Assembly requires only one person and a Phillips screwdriver. The instructions were mostly drawings, and a couple were too small to be very clear, but I'm no mechanical genius and I found it fairly easy to put together. Still there were a few times when I wondered if I'd been given the wrong parts. CAUTION: Some of the platic parts look like they could easily shear off if you apply too much force. Brains over brawn on this one, please. Nevertheless, it did take some pressure to get the high pressure hose fitting to catch when attaching it to the hose inlet. With only 5 screws in the bag, it turns out that two of them were unaccounted for by the instructions, but their placement was obvious.

EASE OF USE

The placement of the water hose inlet is awkward. People with big fingers might want to enlist help. I'm going to take the advice of one of the other reviewers and get a hose saver to attach there, making it less likely I'll damage the inlet fitting in the attaching and removing of the hose.

Once everything is hooked up and the unit is plugged in, run some water through the trigger gun and wand before turning on the motor, to get the air out of the system. Initially, I plugged the unit into an extension cord. The motor would not start. Turns out the reset button was getting tripped. When I plugged it directly into an outlet, problem solved.

My first job was clearning thick moss and years of accumulated dirt and oil off of a section of my driveway. The Variable power wand was clearly not powerful enough, but the Dirtblaster wand took care of it beautifully. I've never used a pressure washer before, so I don't know whether the time it took was reasonable or excessive. I found the tip of the Dirtblaster had to be positioned six inches or less from the surface to clean effectively, which made for slow going on a long driveway. At a couple of cracks in the concrete, the power to clean was also the power to break off a couple of pebbles from the edges of the cracks. However, the driveway looks great and the unit performed great the whole time. A more powerful unit might have done it faster, but in the hands of a novice like me, might have done some serious damage as well.

SAFETY

Wear eye protection! Debris gets blown up quite a distance.

The trigger gun has a flimsy but effective safety lock. I was very glad it did as I waved the wand around wildly trying to get the kinks out of the high pressure hose. The unit sits solidly on flat surfaces and is not easily pulled over.

OVERALL

So far, I'm very satisfied with my purchase. At $119 and with free shipping, assuming the unit holds up as well in cleaning my deck next weekend, it will have more than paid for itself in just a month.

4 out of 5 stars Good all purpose power washer   June 20, 2010

I ordered this unit from Karcher CPO which provides a 30 day return policy only, no warranty. The first unit I recieved was shipped promptly and came well packaged but upon assembly I found it to be defective. The power wand pressure hose would not insert properly into the unit. Karcher CPO was excellent about the return. They sent me a UPS label which I attached to the box and upon notification of the shipping number immediately sent me a replacement unit. The second unit worked perfectly. I have used the optional cleaning wand to clean a spanish tile pool deck that had some heavy black mildew and it was able to remove it all, although it can take awhile if the deposits are thick. Because so many reviewers mentioned the weakness of the water hose connection, I went to the hardware store and bought a 4 inch hose saver which is a short section of hose surrounded with a metal spring. This has worked very well to prevent putting too much pressure on the unit's fitting. Overall, I find that the unit is fine for cleaning most surfaces like walls, windows, etc. It also has a small dispenser that allows you to apply cleaners before you power wash and it works well. I was concerned about power as I am used to using higher powered gas engine pressure washers, but for most home jobs this unit works perfectly well. Make sure you assemble the unit and test it before the 30 day period expires and save the box just in case. I also strongly suggest you buy the hose saver. One other point not made in the instructions is to be sure and connect the water to the unit and operate the power wand until the water runs through it BEFORE you turn on the unit's power switch. This will gaurantee that there is water in the pump before it runs and preserve the pump seals.

5 out of 5 stars My unit is going on 17 years and is still working fine   June 4, 2010

My original Karcher is still going
The main reason is because they make replacement parts.
I froze a couple valves 2 years ago by leaving it in a shed.
I was so happy that it came apart and parts were available.
So I'm not ready for another yet, but rest asure when I am it will be a Karcher.

3 out of 5 stars worked first time   May 10, 2010
Wally Kohl (Lincoln City, OR)
Used it today for the first time. Just used the variable nozzle. Everything worked fine.
The pressure was not as high as I had imagined. This is good. The wife wanted a lower pressure unit and this one is good. did not try the power nozzle.
I can see why people have problems with the water hose connection. It seems flimsy, so I will add a quick disconnect and some sort of support to protect the fitting. It should have some form of brace on the outer case to give the water hose fitting a more durable attachment.
This is so much easier to use than the gas one it replaced.

1 out of 5 stars Huge Disappointment   April 21, 2010

I never wrote a review in my entire life.

I bought this 12 months ago @ AMAZON who did their part to my satisfaction. $200+

Used it twice and neighbor used it twice in April "09, worked fine but the wheels which did never roll.

This year it is not working and leaking. The horrible tech support told me to open it up and check on leak provenance It is the high pressure elbow bib that is leaking at the seam/weld (plastic). Just bought $18 replacement and hope to fix it this WE.
However during disassembly I broke the cheap little plastic shaft that connects the power knob to the valve. Not fixable!

Now i Hopefully have a half ass working pressure washer that I can never turn off!

I am ashamed to own this thing.
